Shakespear
Regional Park
Just five minutes drive takes you to this delightful coastal working
farm park, established as a public park of 376 HA in 1967.
The
parklands provide a variety of landscapes. The beach side picnic areas
with abundant pohutakawa trees (NZ Christmas Tree) that blossom during
December are a visual delight. This popular swimming and picnic beach
is also a regular venue for sail board and kite surfing enthusiasts.
The parklands include waterfalls and well formed marked trails and board
walks through farm lands, native forests, and swamp land, return time
1 - 2 hours. The spectacular views of Auckland city and Hauraki Gulf from
the lookout are not to be missed.
Snow
Planet
Just 15 minutes drive away is one of the worlds largest all year snow
resorts. The giant snowdome's slope is covered in a thick base of powder
snow, has three lifts, a terrain park and seperate learners area. Equipment
hire for skiing and snow boarding, together with experienced tuition is
available.

Orewa
Beach and Shops
15 minutes drive to this stunning 2.5km of flat sandy beach and commercial
centre of the region. Orewa Beach is popular for walking, swimming, kite
surfing, sail boarding, land yachting and is home to the local surf club.
The close by commercial centre provides a large variety of shops restaurants
and services. The panoramic view along the beach from the lookout at the
northern end of the beach is not to be missed.

Bush
At the northern end of Orewa Beach is this fine example of mature native
forest of 130 variety's of trees, shrubs, ferns and orchids, including
300 year old kauri's. The informative all weather walks are suitable for
all fitness levels and will provide a wonderful in sight to the N.Z. forest.
