The Whangaparaoa Region

Aucklanders living on the edge of the Hauraki Gulf have a strong association with the sea. Boating and yachting in particular are popular sports with the locals. Many a world famous yachtsman has grown up in this incredible region that was home to the Americas Cup 1995 - 2003.

Just 20 minutes drive north from downtown Auckland is the amazing Whangaparaoa Peninsula. This narrow peninsula projects out into the Hauraki Gulf and offers a huge variety of Picturesque scenery and recreational opportunities. The peninsula has several local shopping centers including the new Whangaparaoa Pacific Plaza.

The coastline is made up of interesting rocky and cliff areas separating the many fabulous safe, sandy beaches. When combined with large reserves and wilderness areas the peninsula is a haven for a healthy lifestyle or vacation.
